In high school, Junpei once got so absorbed in painting something for the school festival when Makito, his popular classmate, came and talked to him. That turned out to be the one and only time they ever had a memorable conversation together.
Six years after their graduation, Makito has returned to their hometown and they had a coincidental reunion. Junpei had given up on doing art and became a Self-Defense Force official but he resigned after he met with an accident and has since been suffering from its aftereffects. It seems that Makito too is suffering from some heartbreak himself.
After talking about their nostalgic past, and just when they started talking about moving forward in life again, Makito drowned in the sea. While he gave the breathless Makito a mouth-to-mouth, Junpei pleaded, "Don't die, Makito! Not when we've just started talking to each other!"
What lies at the end of those memories is an adoration not unlike romance. This is the love story of two kind and awkward men, brought to you by Sanba Maekawa.
